Ofsted Inspections

Ofsted Preparation

We are Ofsted trained and have either led or been part of preparatory inspection teams. This has provided an independent, external insight into standards and have been proven to be invaluable in the school improvement cycle. The process that we follow is set out below: 

  • The SEF in whatever format one exists
  • The School Development Plan
  • The most recent exam analysis
  • The latest progress and attainment data
  • Examples of student tracking, reporting cycle information

We meet with members of the SLT to decide the focus of the Ofsted Preparation and the format that it will take. In many instances this will involve paired observations to mirror the Ofsted inspection regime.

Teaching & Learning

  • When conducting classroom observations we provide both written and verbal feedback to each member of staff and ensure that all feedback is supportive and constructive
  • As an extension to the Ofsted Preparation process we are able to work with teachers who are consistently a grade 3 or 4. This is conducted as part of the Appraisal and Capability policy to raise standards of teaching and learning
  • Assessment for Learning is a key component of high quality classroom delivery and we review the existing practice of student tracking, target setting and monitoring of progress. Where appropriate, we propose improvements and draw on our experience to discuss alternative approaches that have had proven impact
  • Student tracking naturally leads into the identification of students not making sufficient progress and intervention strategies to boost progress

Middle & Senior Leadership

Some Ofsted Preparations will have a focus on Leadership and Management. Consequently we conduct an in-depth review of leadership structures and create an understanding of the strengths of management and possible areas for improvement. This approach will often be the precursor to a restructuring or budget concerns.

If required, we use the Ofsted Preparation experience to develop a Raising Attainment Plan, a SEF or the School Development Plan.
